Psalms, 137

1. I will praise thee, O lord, with my whole heart: for thou hast heard the words of my mouth. I will sing praise to thee in the sight of his angels:

2. I will worship towards thy holy temple, and I will give glory to thy name. For thy mercy, and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy holy name above all.

3. In what day soever I shall call upon thee, hear me: thou shall multiply strength in my soul.

4. May all the kings of the earth give glory to thee: for they have heard all the words of thy mouth.

5. And let them sing in the ways of the Lord: for great is the glory of the Lord.

6. For the Lord is high, and looketh on the low: and the high he knoweth afar off.

7. If I shall walk in the midst of tribulation, thou wilt quicken me: and thou hast stretched forth thy hand against the wrath of my enemies: and thy right hand hath saved me.

8. The Lord will repay for me: thy mercy, O Lord, endureth for ever: O despise not the work of thy hands.

Psalm 137 is a lamentation of the people of Israel, who is exiled in Babylon, far from their homeland and the temple of Jerusalem. They express their sadness and longing for Zion, the Holy City of God, which is now devastated. Below are five verses related to the topics covered in Psalm 137:

Isaiah 52:8: "Voices of their atalanes! They raise their voice together, because they see with their own eyes the return of the Lord to Zion." This verse speaks of the return of the people of Israel to Zion and the restoration of their land.

Lamentations 1:4: "The roads of Zion are sad because no one comes to the parties. All their doors are deserted; their priests sigh, their young women are sad, and she is in bitterness herself." This verse describes the sadness and loneliness of Zion after being destroyed by the Babylonians.

Jeremiah 51:50: "I heard, exiles, that they are far from my land! The Lord has judged Babylon and will silence it." This verse speaks of God's revenge against Babylon, which destroyed Jerusalem and led the people of Israel to exile.

Psalm 126:1: "When the Lord brought the captives back to Zion, we were like those who dream." This verse speaks of the joy and astonishment of the people of Israel when they were set free from exile and could return to Zion.

Ezekiel 11:17: "Therefore, say, Thus saith the Lord God, I will gather you among the peoples and gather them from the lands you are scattered, and I will give you the land of Israel." This verse speaks of God's promise to bring His people back to their land and restore them.
